Don’t think you have enough time to show up on Facebook live? Aren’t really sure where to begin?
Well, there’s no reason to let these hesitations stop you from connecting with your people and sharing your message. And while there’s no secret formula I can share with you today, there are some key steps you can follow to ensure your Facebook live is not only well-thought-out but also valuable for your audience. So, without further ado, here’s my quick checklist for brilliant Facebook lives.
1. Always Consider The Length Of Facebook Live In Advance
Think about how much time it will take to share your message in advance. You don’t have to know exactly, however, an approximate time frame is helpful. For a one or two minute Facebook live choose a tiny topic. E.g. I would choose: “3 Topics you can talk about on Facebook live your audience will love.” For longer Facebook lives, 20 to 30 mins, the topic can be bigger. E.g ‘I would choose a more general topic: ‘How to get over your nerves on Facebook live with ease’
2. Choose Your Topic Wisely To Prevent Black-Outs
you know how long your Facebook live will be, it’s time to decide on the topic.
Choose wisely! Choose something that you’ve talked about a lot in the past.
That will help prevent black-outs as you’re already confident with this topic.
3. Write Down Bullet Points To Calm Your Crazy Nerves
It’s so important to have a concept and an idea of what you’re going to say. Nothing feels worse than going live and then looking like a deer in headlights. Your bullet points will save you. It’s totally ok to look at your bullet points when you’re live. That doesn’t make you look unprofessional. The opposite is true. It shows that you care about your people because you are well prepared.
4. Choose Portrait Or Landscape Mode
Both are fine. You’ll find a lot of opinions online that say that landscape is the best. But really, I don’t care. Because the only thing that is really important is that you share your message to help your people. And they will love you no matter which format you choose. I usually choose portrait mode when my living room is a bit messy 😉 And when I’m outdoors I love landscape mode because that adds a lovely atmosphere to my performance.
5. Always Add Captions To Make Your Viewers Happy
With Facebook lives you have to types of audiences. The ones that watch live. And the ones that watch the replay. And chances are that the replay viewers are in an environment where they can’t turn on the sound. So, the best Facebook lives are the ones that can be consumed by everyone. And not only that, but captions can also help you get your message across more effectively, regardless of where or when someone is watching your video.
And Your Take Away…
You’re all set to get started! Keep this checklist with you and remember that practice makes perfect (and have fun with it!). So what are you waiting for?
